The majority of our titles also include a number of downloadable files-- these files can be found on the detail page for each book (just look for the "Download Book Files" link.) You also can register your book to recieve updates, errata, additional tutorials, etc. and you can nominate whether or not you would like to receive updates about the title you have purchased and/or the Kuiper Publishing newsletter. We never sell or use your details for any other purposes.
Below you will find some Frequently Asked Questions about the download files provided for our titles:
Q: Why don't you include a CD-ROM with your books?
A: It used to be most every computer or technical book had a CD-ROM in the back cover-- but with the widespread use of the Internet, it is much easier to post the files online. In addition, it makes it easier for us to update or enhance these resources over time.
Q: Can I download the software from your web site?
A: Unfortunately, no. The download files we provide contain sample files, code samples, links to resources, etc. but not the actual software itself. Many software vendors offer a trial version of their software you can download from their web site, or alternately you can purchase the software directly from the vendor.
Q: Where can I get technical support for the download files?
A: We provide support for the files through the Kuiper Publishing community forums. The files are provided "As-Is" and to demonstrate specific features and functionality highlighted in the book. Unfortunately, we can't provide technical support in general for the product covered by the book. Each software vendor has their own support offering, knowledge base, etc. and there are also a number of third-party forums, web sites, etc. dedicated to the support of the software. With each book, we publish a list of resources for where to get more help-- if there is a problem with the download files, we are happy to help. If there is a problem with the software, we won't be able to help you.
Q: What format are the download files provided in?
A: Our download files are provided in ZIP format-- the files vary by book, from small (1mb) to quite large (100mb+.) If you have a slow Internet connection, it may take a while to download. For slow Internet connections, we recommend the use of a download manager-- if you are using Firefox, there is one built in otherwise there are a number of third-party applications to help download large files. In addition, the files we provide have been virus-scanned and are known to be virus and malware-free.
